Sally Jane Smith, 70, passed away surrounded by her loving family and beloved cat Spot, on October 7th, 2021, at her home in Minot. She was born September 8, 1951 in Tamworth, New Hampshire, the daughter of Walter Nason and Teresa (Petitpas) Smith.
Sally proudly graduated with an Associates Degree in Business from Mid-State College, and spent many years working for Thomas Moser Cabinetmakers. She was proud of the work she did as an administrative assistant and in quality control, and even managed to create several pieces of furniture for her family during her time. She married her beloved husband, Dana Smith, and they initially settled in Portland. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage together on November 24, 2021. Anyone who knew Sally well saw her playful, loyal, and loving personality; she adored her family, loved boating and camping; celebrating birthdays and holidays with them; and always made incredible sheet pan pizzas and apple pie. She was the proud recipient of the Wood Badge, the highest badge an adult can earn as a Den Leader in Cub Scouts; loved gardening and plants; enjoyed tole-painting country scenes on wood; and in her love of four-wheeling, was known for her lead thumb and foot.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her step-sister, Ruth Smith Whitney, and nephew Ronald Wood Jr. Surviving in addition to her husband Dana Smith, are her cherished sons Michael (Kelly) of Niskayuna, NY and Thomas (Cynthia) of Auburn; two adored grandchildren, Tyler and Stella of Auburn; siblings, Dorothy Smith Dyer of Alabama, Philip Smith of New Hampshire, G. Walter Smith of Alabama, Cora Nason Wood of Tennessee, Mary Nason Eastman of Maine, Harold Nason of Maine, Cindy Nason Tufts of Maine, Terri Smith of Idaho, Sherri Smith of Oregon, Norma Smith Willis (Jeff) of Maine, and Norman Smith of Maine; as well many nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Sally was a true lover of animals, especially her rescued cat, Spot, who was constantly by her side and brought her great joy. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. Sally will always be remembered as kind, generous and devoted to family
