

She was born in Clinton, ME on November 17, 1941, a daughter of the late Arnold L. & Clara E. (Dodge) Hanscom. Sophie grew up in Clinton, attending local area schools and graduated from Clinton High School. After graduating she served her country by entering the US Army.
She was a member of both the Mother’s Group in Waterville and the Stention Group in Clinton.
She enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables and was very proud of her yard, always out cutting, trimming and landscaping. She also spent time knitting and sewing, she also loved bingo.
She is survived by her three daughters Kimberly Thorpe and her husband Tom of Winslow, Geri Richards and her husband Willie of Vassalboro, and Rose M. Bowdoin and her fiancée Bobby of Old Orchard Beach. She also leaves her nine grandchildren John, Denise, Kim, Julie, John, Jason, Amanda, Samantha and Landen as well as five brothers Darill, Dale, LaForest, Richard and Tilton, two sisters Sherilyn and Lynette and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service, with military honors on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Catholic Cemetery, Cemetery Road in Vassalboro. Following the graveside service folks are invited to American Legion, 86 Main Street in Fairfield from 3 – 6 p.m.
