She was born on June 18, 1952 in Skowhegan, Maine, daughter of Raymond Laney Jr. and Patricia (Hughes) Laney. She graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1970. Susan was a homemaker and market gardener, who enjoyed cooking elaborate meals, baking bread, going for walks, reading, and spending time with her many Labrador Retrievers. She took great pride in her home and caring for the sheep and gardens which she and her husband raised.
Susan is survived by her husband of 47 years, Barry W. Hayes; her three daughters, Carrie Philbrook of Surry, Maine; Megan Hayes-Teague of Topsham, Maine and Emily Verissimo of Kittery, Maine, as well as nine grandchildren.
A family service will be conducted at a later time.
