

Anne Egerton Simms Haskins, 103, of Raleigh, died January 8, 2015, at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community where she had lived for almost 25 years. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 61 years, Albert Lewis Haskins, Jr.; by her parents, Robert N. and Virginia Simms, and four brothers – Robert, Albert, Stewart, and Bill. A native of Raleigh, she graduated from Hugh Morson High School. After receiving a B.A. in History from Meredith College in 1931, she attended UNC-Chapel Hill for a teaching certificate and art classes.
Anne Haskins was devoted to her whole family who received her loving care. She is survived by one brother, John M. Simms of Daleville, VA, and wife Lorraine; two sisters-in-law, Helen Simms of Richmond, VA; and Mary Ann Simms of Greer, SC; her son Albert L. Haskins III and wife Yvonne of Aberdeen; three daughters and their husbands: Virginia and Jack Bagby of Virginia Beach, VA; Betty Anne and Sam Schlegel of St. Augustine, FL, and Kathleen Thompson of Raleigh.
Anne’s family also includes eight grandchildren: Ashley B. Spruill of Virginia Beach, VA; Kristin B. Mullenix of Nolensville, TN; T. Jack Bagby IV of Decatur, GA; Laura T. Wilkerson of Durham; Corrie Haskins of Sydney, Australia; Holly H. Campbell of Madisonville, TN; Charity Haskins of Aberdeen, NC; and Sam H. Schlegel of Boca Raton, FL; and ten great-grandchildren, twelve nieces and nephews and other special family members, including Fred Thompson of Raleigh and the Shelton family of Virginia Beach.
The Haskins family would like to especially thank Laura Bryant Gee, Annette Roberson and the personnel at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community for their kindness and compassionate care during the last years of her life.
She was a long-time, faithful member of First Baptist Church of Raleigh on Salisbury Street where she served as deacon, nursery coordinator, and mission leader. Through the years, she was very involved in and enjoyed her book clubs, Meredith Alumnae Association, Raleigh Rose Society, NC Museum of Art, and NC State Friends of the College concerts.
A celebration of Anne Haskins’ life will be held Saturday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community on 1500 Sawmill Road. Rev. Phyllis Mayo, chaplain, will officiate. Family visitation will follow the memorial service. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery earlier in the day will be for the family.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made either to the Day Mission Endowment of First Baptist Church, (99 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27603) which funds church mission teams, or to the Springmoor Endowment Fund (1500 Sawmill Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615) which assists residents in need.
