Beaman Harris Scarboro died peacefully on November 12, 2025, at Atria Oakridge Retirement Community. Beaman was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred Beaman Scarboro in 1994 and Logan Harris Scarboro in 1980.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark Harris Scarboro and Magen Marie Scarboro, his granddaughter, Kennedy Harris Scarboro, and his daughter, Lynne Ashley Scarboro.
Beaman was born and raised in Wendell, NC, and was a graduate of Wendell High School, Class of 1954. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1959 and was a die-hard Wolfpack fan.
His career started at Electric Storage Battery Company in 1959 as a junior industrial engineer. After ESB, he joined Corning Glass Works, electronic division, also an industrial engineer. Beaman then joined IBM, which had recently begun operations in the Raleigh area. He worked in several areas at IBM, including Cost Engineering, Finance, and Business Planning, and remained at IBM for the rest of his 26-year career, retiring in 1992.
After retirement, Beaman joined the staff at the new Entertainment and Sports Arena (now PNC Arena), where he enjoyed the various events performed there for 11 years, during which he became an avid hockey fan. The highlight of those years at PNC was working game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals in 2006, which the Hurricanes won.
Beaman commented that no sporting event could ever equal that experience. After leaving PNC, Beaman began part-time work in real estate, which he enjoyed immensely, and met his long-time partner, Claudette Williams.
Beaman loved golf and, while at IBM, went on many trips to Myrtle Beach with his golf buddies, which he continued to enjoy many years after leaving IBM.
Beaman was a former member of the Raleigh Ski and Outing Club, where he learned to ski and went on many trips out west, as well as on the East Coast.
Beaman loved the beach and spent weeks each year with his children and friends at his beach condo in Pine Knoll Shores.
Beaman spent his final years at Atria Oakridge Retirement community, where he met many friends, including Judy Rubenstein, who, after sharing the grief of losing their long-time partners, ended up finding love again in each other.
Beaman also served his country for 8 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
A service to honor Beaman’s life will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, November 25th, at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church in his name.
