Betty Owens Purser

Betty Owens Purser passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on March 2nd at the age of 93. Betty was born in Columbus County to Major and Nora Owens on August 17, 1932. She attended Mars Hill Junior College and graduated from Meredith College in 1954. While at Meredith she met a handsome young Tarheel, Jim Purser, and they were married for 59 years.

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she will always be remembered for her love of family and selfless giving to others. She shared with many, her kind and gracious ways. She will be greatly missed by, not only by her family but by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her daughters Kathy Laukhart, Paula McManimen (Steve), grandchildren Kate Cabral(Denison), Allison Throneburg (Carter), John Laukhart, Rachel, Will and Laura McManimen, great grandchildren Daniela Cabral, James, Mary Kathryn, Caroline Throneburg and her sweet kitty Gracie. Sisters Lillian, Mildred and Anne, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, siblings Ruth, Doris, Mark, Joyce and Linda.

We are especially thankful for the caring staff of the Stewart Health Center at Springmoor and Transitions LifeCare. Our heartfelt thanks to her companions Aiesha, Renee, Linda, Jackie, Helen, and Elsie who brought this wonderful group of caregivers to us.

The Family will receive friends on Sunday March 8 from 3-5 at Brown- Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road. Funeral Service will be at First Baptist Church, 99 N. Salisbury St., Monday March 9 at 1pm.
