Let me introduce you to Bobby Ray Stott. Bobby was born on April 17, 1926 to Mr. W. W. Stott and Mrs. Zettie Bissette Stott in the Nash County town of Bailey, North Carolina. After High School, he spent a short time in the US Navy, but even then, his heart never left North Carolina. Every leave he would thumb home to enjoy his Mama Stott’s cooking and, when possible, a side trip to watch Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice dance into the end zone for his favorite UNC Tarheels. Soon he met the love of his life, Sallie Lou Perry, and over 66 years ago they became man and wife. He attended Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) and with the help of the GI Bill received his degree and began coaching and teaching in Pine Level, NC…a period of time he always cherished. During this time he became the father of three sons, Greg, Randy, and Mitchell. After a few years he moved to Lucama, NC and continued shaping the lives of many young people. Then the lure of the big city beckoned. Bobby moved his family to Millbrook and continued coaching and teaching for several more years. He always reflected that the time he worked with kids was his favorite. But the needs of a growing family pushed him in other directions. He worked as a sales representative for educational products, a manager for various state and local agencies, and finished his professional career on the staff of the Honorable David Price, US Congressman. For those of you lucky enough to have known Bobby or Coach Stott, then you know that he did not just have jobs or hobbies, he had passions. He was passionate about his students, his teams, and their lives. He was passionate about the future of North Carolina and how to make this world kinder for our children. He was passionate about his family, his brothers and sisters, his wife and sons, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The world will be dimmer without him.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Sallie; two sons, Greg and Mitchell; four Grandchildren, Zachary, Emily, Sarah, and Will; four great grandchildren, Tyler, Sallie Grace, Avery, and Charlotte; and three sisters, Evelyn, Melba, and Clara.
His family will receive friends Thursday, September 26, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh NC 27609. Funeral service will be at the church on Friday, September 27, at 2:00 pm, with interment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
