

Ed Donovan passed away on November 15, 2012, at his residence at Alta Oakridge in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., the son of the late Edward F. and Grace C. (Laffee) Donovan, of Cambridge, Mass.
After a parochial education, he served a year in the U.S. Navy, including 6 months aboard the U.S. Missouri. Following his Honorable Discharge, he attended Boston College where he earned his B.S. in Mathematics.
Thirty six years of Ed’s career were spent in various positions with IBM when he retired in 1990 as the manager of the International Executive Briefing Center.
An avid sports fan, Ed lettered in HS baseball and basketball. He was a licensed official in those two sports as well as ice hockey. During his later years, he became an avid golfer.
An active member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church for more than 30 years, Ed was a Eucharistic Minister, served on the Pastoral Council and was an enthusiastic member of ‘The Holy Hackers’ golf group.
Ed was married to the late Barbara A. "Poppy" (Franzen) Donovan, of Massillon, Ohio. He is survived by his two daughters; Kathleen and Steven Kuss, of Sparta, TN. and Susan and Stephen Barry, of Thornton, CO; his grandchildren Matthew Kuss of Conroe, TX, Katherine Kuss of Rochester, NY, Timothy Kuss of LaFayette, N.Y. and Christopher Barry of Farmington Hills, MI. and his sister, Judith Larchez, of Norwell, Mass. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol A. Donovan of Raleigh, N.C. and his sister, Joan F. Curtin, of Wayland, MA.
A viewing for family & friends will be held Monday, Nov.19th, 2012 at St. Raphael Catholic Church starting at 11:30 am until 1pm when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in their Dad's name to the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (www.dvnf.org/donate) or to St. Raphael Church.
