Grace was born in Wheat Swamp, NC on January 11th, 1944. She graduated as valedictorian of Wheat Swamp High School. Grace continued her education and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina University and became a high school English teacher.
Grace was the beloved wife of 51 years to William Kincy Smith II. She is also survived by two sons William Edward Smith and Bradford Dail Smith, five grandchildren Blanton Smith, Kincey Smith, Nathan Smith, Ben Smith and Mary King Smith; siblings Harold Dail and Sue Alexander and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by parents Benjamin & Sybil Dail and siblings Elmer Dail, Benjamin Dail Jr.
Grace, affectionately called GiGi by most, was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. GiGi loved long walks on the beach at Emerald Isle, sitting on the deck with a glass of red wine, playing golf, shag dancing with her husband Bill and generally living each day to the fullest. Her ardent faith in God led her to embrace the joy in the day-to-day…so lively and energetic that even the grandkids could barely keep up. Her energy was mostly spent doing for others like cooking elaborate meals for family and friends reminiscent of life growing up on the farm in eastern North Carolina.
Grace’s contagious laugh and knowing smile will be profoundly missed. Her many acts of love will live on as precious memories in the hearts of her husband, sons, grandchildren, family and friends. Grace’s final hours were full of love and a remnant of a life well lived.
The memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 7506 Falls of Neuse Road on Wednesday, July 9th at 2pm. Reception immediately following for family and friends at the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St Andrews Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
