

He was born in Boaz, AL on August 29th, 1924, the son of the late John Randolph and Mozelle Castleberry. He was also preceded in death by his only brother John Randolph Castleberry Jr. He was married to Martha Chasteen Castleberry on February 10th, 1946.
Hugh served in the Army during World War II where he received a Purple Heart. After his time in the Army he joined F.W. Woolworth Corp. where he was in management for 35 years. Upon his retirement he worked 13 years in Real Estate for C. Porter Vaughn Realty in Richmond, VA. In 1993, Hugh & Martha relocated to Raleigh, NC to be near family. He was an active member at Greystone Baptist Church where he served on multiple committees. His hobbies were golf, reading, bridge club, and working crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Martha Chasteen Castleberry; son H. Michael Castleberry and wife Karen Hansen of Miami, FL; daughter Patrice Castleberry Ogden and husband T. Michael Ogden of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren Thomas M. Ogden Jr. and wife Angie of Knoxville, TN, H. Baxter Ogden and wife Sarah of Matthews, NC, and Morgan Ogden Burns and husband Clint of Wendell, NC; a great granddaughter Addison Spencer Ogden of Matthews, NC; a sister-in law Jo Castleberry of Gadsden, AL and a brother-in-law Hugh T. Chasteen and wife Sue of Franklin, TN.
A celebration of his life will take place on Monday, January 2, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Greystone Baptist Church, Raleigh. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Room immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Greystone Baptist Church, 7509 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.
