Born in Pittsburg PA, she was the daughter of late, Margaret and Walter Mason. She married and raised a family in West Hartford, Connecticut and eventually retired to Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
A dignified, feisty and caring woman, Janet was also a wonderful tennis player, a fantastic cook, marvelous bridge partner and a loyal Tar Heels fan.
Janet is survived by her husband of 45 years, Drayton Heard; daughters, Nancy Krahmer and husband Chad and Allison Dugan and husband Brent; sister, Nancy Armour and husband William; 6 grandchildren and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Private services will be held at a later date.
