

Kenneth Leroy Sigworth, 90, sailed on his Eternal Patrol on 4 November 2014. He served as an Electrician’s Mate First Class during World War 2 aboard the submarines USS R-20 (SS-97), USS SPADEFISH (SS-411), and USS ARCHERFISH (SS-311). He was a Past State Commander of the Tarheel Chapter of U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War 2 with membership dating back to 1968 He will be remembered for his love of family, friends, and honorable service to our country, in the United States Navy. Ken was an avid mall walker, and Third Ager Club member. He retired from IBM in 1987.
He is survived by children; Aimee Benfield and husband, Jeff of Raleigh, Keith Sigworth and wife, Sherri of Knightdale, and Beth Stormer and husband, Darin of Carolina Beach, Craig Sigworth of Bloomfield Hills, MI, brother, Larry Sigworth of Bartlesville, OK, grandchildren; Dane Sigworth and wife, Stephanie of Toledo, OH, Brett Sigworth of Lexington, MA, Bryce Benfield and wife, Kayla of Novi, MI, and Zachary Benfield of Raleigh, great-grandchild, Evelyn Sigworth of Toledo, OH ,dear friend and companion, Tanya Crane of Raleigh. Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Rosemary C. Sigworth, sisters; Evelyn Blaire and Arlene Ramsey, brother, Dale Sigworth.
A funeral service, with Naval military honors, will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh. The family will receive guests following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made in his honor to Navy- Marine Corps Relief Society, 926 USS James Madison Rd., Kings Bay Base, GA 31547.
