July 1 1950 – September 8 2025
Peggy died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of September 8, 2025 after a slow decline in her health over several years and now joins her Lord and Savior in heaven. She was born in the city of Oakland, California, the first of four daughters to Lt Col Ernest Irvine Melin (USMC) and Ethel Martha Melin. She graduated from Beaufort High School in SC in 1968 then attended Meredith College for two years. Transferring to NC State University, she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Product Design/ Visual Design in 1974. She went on to receive a Masters of Product Design from the School of Design from NC State University in 1976. With tenacity and perseverance, she gained admission to the school of design and excelled there. She worked freelance in visual design for several years, then with several framing companies. She was known for her artistic creativity and her exquisite calligraphy. She was one of a kind, describing herself as “squirrely” though most people who knew her would say quirky or eccentric.
Peggy faced many health challenges in her adult years. At the age of 28 she found Jesus Christ and became a born again Christian. She took great solace in her faith and devoted her life to Jesus Christ. Her faith helped her to overcome many health issues. As her health declined she required skilled nursing care and spent her last 3 years at Litchford Falls Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Raleigh. She considered staff members there to be good friends.
Peggy never married and had no children. She was preceded in death by both her parents. She is survived by three sisters: Karen Jennings (Mike), Nancy Hall (Jim), Dr Susan Melin (Bil Jenko); nephew Jon Jennings, and nieces Andrea Armistead (Dan) and Melinda Hall (Brooks Westbrook) as well as their children. She is also survived by multiple cousins. In addition, her BFF was Georgia George from Alliance Ohio who was her roommate at Meredith. She loved her dearly and they always signed off their conversations and letters with “Je t’aime”. Finally, she loved and was loved by multiple church members who were very supportive throughout her life.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Litchford Falls for taking such good and compassionate care of Peggy over the past three years and to Heartland Hospice for providing her comfort in her final days. We are forever grateful to Newpath Church for all their support and prayers for Peggy which gave her immense comfort. There will be a celebration of life for Peggy on October 11, 2025 at 1 pm at Newpath Church in Raleigh. The family requests no flowers.
