Pat was born in Chattanooga TN on December 04, 1930 and called Chattanooga home until after her marriage to Joe Kasey Bailey Jr in 1952. Prior to leaving Chattanooga, Pat graduated from what is now the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a BA in English Literature. After Joe returned from the Korean War, for the next 10 years they lived throughout the southern US in approximately eighteen homes before moving permanently to Raleigh in 1963 with their 3 children. Originally, Pat was a stay-at-home mother until Kasey entered school; at which time she attended Meredith College to get her teaching credentials. Pat taught kindergarten and first grade for 6 years before deciding a change was necessary. She then made her career at the United Methodist Conference Treasurer’s Office until her retirement in 1985. Pat was widowed in 1985.
In retirement, Pat volunteered much of her time to numerous endeavors. Pat founded the NCSU chapter of the Chi Omega sorority. She remained active in the life of this chapter for many years and was involved in the activities of the national Chi Omega Council until shortly before her death. Her sorority sisters were one of her greatest joys throughout her life. Pat also volunteered at her church, Grace Community, and the Wake County Public Libraries. In addition to volunteering, Pat loved to play bridge. Pat enjoyed the companionship of her bridge friends almost as much as she loved the game.
Pat is survived by her 3 children and their spouses/partners: Alexander Neale Bailey (Carol), Mark Houston Bailey (Stephen), and Kasey Bailey Barber (Johnny); all of whom are celebrating the life of their wonderful mother. Pat's extended family includes 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Although she will live in our hearts forever, we will all miss her wise guidance and unconditional love.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Raleigh Church at 7041 Old Wake Forest Road, on Friday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Grace Raleigh Church.
