Dr. Reginald Jordan, CIH was one of my most beloved mentors.  I met him when I was student at St. Augustine's College in the Industrial Hygiene Program in 1995.  He gave me great advice and helped me throughout my career as an industrial hygienist.  Anytime I needed direction, personal or professional, he was always there.  I remember giving him a cigar on my last visit with him at St. Aug, as always he had a joke and smile.  He was a great teacher and industrial hygienist.  I can't thank him enough for how he helped shape my career and he will be missed.  Thank you Dr. Jordan for being genuine and honest, always.

Dear Erin:

We want you and the entire Jordan Family to know how sad we are, and how much we will miss Reg, and how much we loved him. He was a very special man and we will treasure forever that moments we spent with him working together at the UNC ERC. Those times will never be forgotten. Losing you’re a parent is a tragedy of life shattering proportions for many people. Reg always spoke glowingly of the family.

When Reg visited us in Amherst Massachusetts to work on a joint project he spent quality time with Joan’s daughter Jan. We will never forget the genuine kindness and compassion that he exuded. When I retired From the University of Massachusetts in 2003 I received a gift in the mail from your Dad, a beautiful green fountain pen because he and I shared a love of these writing instruments. He was an extremely thoughtful and kind person.

I will miss the times we spent together and the wonderful and good spirited help Reg was always willing to provide. I will miss Reg’s insightful and fatherly advice, and the wonderful stories that he always took the time to tell Joan and me. We will treasure them forever.

Reg will be missed by the profession and the students that he so patiently taught and nurtured throughout his career. Reg will always be an industrial hygienist’s, industrial hygienist.  Reg’s crystal-clear discussions in class will remain second to none.

I have saved and will always cherish Reg’s comments on some of my written materials. As you can imagine his comments are more than priceless. Joan and I know that your Dad is probably reading this message as we are writing it and since he always loved to edit everything that I wrote he probably has his red pen ready!

Joan and I always looked forward to the moments that we would share and will cherish them always.

Reg and I met in the early 1980's when I was taking a fiber counting course and he was the instructor.  We both had consulting companies and became fast friends, frequently sharing our stories and experiences about our "views of the world" of industrial hygiene consulting - and anything else that happened to  traverse our respective brain cells!  In addition to being one of the smartest people I ever met, Reg's quick wit and ability to look at sides of issues that no one else would ever think of was always fascinating and, of course, entertaining.  I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Gayle and the girls, and Reg was deservedly the very proud family man.  

My sincerest condolences to Erin, Kelly, and Megan - your Dad was one of a kind and my life definitely has been better for knowing him.

Reg and I worked together at Northrop when the Environmental Sciences Group was just getting started.  We developed a quick friendship, I think because we both had the same kooky sense of humor.  He was smart, quick witted, aggressive and a good business person.  We shared a lot of good times together at work, on the golf course and socially.  We maintained our friendship over the years and I treasured his friendship and his unique sense of humor.  He was a true gentleman and will be missed by so many.  Rest in peace my friend.

I am saddened to hear Reg is no longer with us. He was an inspiring mentor and very perceptive.  Somehow just knowing he was around to chat with helped me feel grounded. I will miss him.

Reg and I were hired at the same time at the University of Central Missouri in 1993.  He was extremely intelligent and humorous, and I sorry that he is no longer with us.  We stayed in touch for a few years and we often reminisced about our Friday afternoon Seminars at Heroes Restaurant and Pub.  Reg was not only a fellow faculty member but a  dedicated friend.  

A great client and friend for over 15 years. I will miss our banter over sports and taxes. A man of great integrity who always wanted to do things the right way.

I am so deeply sorry and saddened by the unexpected passing of this dear man. Reg was a long time friend and co-worker from many years ago and we had stayed in contact over the years. Reg had such a kind and sweet spirit and he knew what to say to make you laugh at the appropriate time, but also the right thing to share to lift your spirits when you were down. He loved life and he enjoyed learning new things and was getting fully immersed into his travels and sharing many great experiences with his family. He loved his girls and he was so proud of each of them and especially the lives they had each made for themselves. He shared often about his visits with them or the times they came to his home. He loved talking about his grandchildren and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. He was a great dad, loving granddad and to folks like myself, he was a great friend and counselor. He will truly be missed.


Not only was Reg my coworker, he was also my mentor and friend.  He was always my advocate, teacher, and sounding board for not only work related items, but also more recently in my personal life.  We spent many a lovely lunch time together talking about everything.  He helped me get where I am now professionally.  

I will miss deeply his wisdom, laugh, kindness, Christmas songs, sense of humor, and forthrightness.  

I will sorely miss his wry sense of humor, his council, his advice, and his sometimes gruff but always winning personality.  He was a gem and I will dearly miss my friend and mentor.  Godspeed Reg.

He is preceded in death by his wife Gayle Steger Jordan.  He is survived by daughters Erin (Scott) of Wake Forest, NC; Kelly (Darren) of London, England; and Megan (Dan) of Los Angeles, CA; and four grandchildren; Noah, Nathan, George and Penelope.
