I met Ron in 1968 - - we were 14, and rode the morning school bus together. I was drawn to him no less by his superb wit than by his ability to play the theme to "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" with his cupped hands, which he taught me to do. In return, and at his urging, I taught him the first eight bars of Beethoven's “Moonlight Sonata” on the grand piano in the DCDS commons room during our senior year.  He was both a brilliant student and a class cut-up.  I especially remember Rodger Round's English class, where we'd get each other going to the point where we couldn't stop laughing. 
 Ron also early displayed a keen sense of justice, and voiced strong objection to the school administration's treatment of John Campbell, our history professor. In recent years we have shared long, long conversations on the telephone, mostly about cooking and classical music, but also about just about everything, from rare books to history to poetry to current events to his Yorkies to his Saab. We were both huge fans of “Master Chef U.K.” and “The Twilight Zone”, and talked at great length about the episodes. We exchanged recipes.  We shared our ups and our downs. I always felt better after talking with Ron. I will sorely miss my dear friend with the soft cooing voice.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I know from listening to you and the funny stories that you and Ronald had a special relationship. Those memories will sustain you and be with you always. Know that you are in my thoughts daily. Anytime you need a ear to listen I will be here.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of your husband today.  My deepest condolences are extended to you and your family during this time of bereavement.

My fondest condolences to Debbie and the rest of Ron's family.  I had the pleasure of meeting Ron on several occassions and enjoyed hearing of his culinary skills and experiments through Debbie and enjoying clippings from their herb garden.

I am going to miss you greatly my dear friend.  So many wonderful memories ... There will not be a day go by when I will not be reminded of you. You were a kind caring gentle person , the ultimate friend. 

My deepest condolences to his family and especially to Debbie who in all ways was always a true saint to Ron. Your love for him was of the highest order.

I have been thinking of Ron and news of his death is quite a shock. I greatly enjoyed having him as a colleague in the Office of Archives and History and will always treasure the memory of our "high culture" lunch discussions.  I never met a person with a greater love of all the finest elements of life--especially classical music and literature. I extend my deep condolences to his wife, Debra, and to his brothers and families.

     I knew Ron as a client and a verbal sparing partner at Audio Advice.  His love of Classical music, and knowledge thereof was always in the forefront of our discussions.  He will be missed.
     My sympathy to those left behind, as Ron was truly a unique soul.

I am very very sad to hear about Ron. He and I became friends while doing our cardio exercise at the gym. We chatted about Kathleen Ferrier, swapped cds and dvds, recipes, talked about travel and he gave the best tv recommendations. Debra, I am truly so very sorry for your loss.

We will miss Ron's friendship, and companionship. He will be sorely missed! Deepest sympathy to Debra, Harold, and the rest of the family.

Playing cards in the commons room, Buddies Pizza, Detroit Symphony, bowling, Michigan Football games, golf, listening to classical music, hearing you play Appassionata Sonata, Beethoven's 9'th with Georg Solti in Chicago, eating together and enjoying your company, your wit, your humor.  I will miss you, my good friend.
