

Shirley Hicks Eberhard, 84, departed this life on October 11, 2012 at her home. A native of Garner, Shirley also lived in Oklahoma and Wyoming before returning to Raleigh in 1982. In Raleigh, Shirley was a Merle Norman consultant and a make-up artist with the Miss North Carolina Pageant. She owned the Kon Tiki Koni Restaurant in Oklahoma before moving to Wyoming where she retired from the Union Pacific Railroad.
Family and friends will remember Shirley for her vivacious personality, joyful laugh and her kindness to all. She was a longtime member of Mt. Moriah Church and the Round Dozen Book Club. At the ECA, Shirley served as State officer for the Food and Nutrition Program, and she was a Master Gardner with the Wake County Extension Agency She also hosted international students who attended NCSU and developed lasting friendships with them.
Family will be present 1-2 PM Tuesday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 3000 E. Garner Rd., Raleigh, where funeral services will follow at 2 PM. Rev. Michael Tolar will officiate.
Survivors include her loving husband of 30 years, Wayne Eberhard; step-sons, Andy and Jay Eberhard of Denver, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Sue Kelly; granddaughter, Sarah Babushkin (Roman); great-granddaughter, Jenna; all from Queensbury, New York; sister, Jacqueline Hicks of Willow Spring; half-sister, Marcia Alford (Jeff); half-brothers, Harvey Hicks (Joanna) and David Hicks (Kathy); all from Raleigh; nieces, Janet Lessard, Emily Currin (Richard), and Jennifer Stephenson (Kenneth); all from Willow Spring; and several great nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved son, Haywood Jerome Kelly (Jerry), former husbands Haywood Kelly and Bill Childers; parents, Bessie Hicks Griffin and H. I. Hicks; step-mother, Louise Allen Hicks; half-brothers, Tommy and Cary Hicks; nephew, Kenneth Lessard.
