

Mr. Theodore “Ted” James Fussell, 86, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at The Oaks at Mayview in Raleigh, NC. He was a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather. Ted was born in Winston-Salem on December 29, 1927 to Herman E. and Connie Stewart Fussell.
In his youth he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and remained friends with some in his troop for life. Ted graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At the university he was active in student government and many other campus organizations. He was a member of Scabbard and Blade, The Order of The Old Well and The Order of the Golden Fleece. He was also a member of the Navy ROTC Program and upon graduation served on active duty in the Navy, retiring in 1970 with the rank of Commander.
Ted returned to Winston-Salem and worked 23 years at Bocock-Stroud Co. as the purchasing agent and inventory manager of the Team Athletic Division. Ted was an avid sports fan and loved his Tar Heels.
Ted was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and served in many capacities as well as on the Young Life Committee. In 2010 he moved to Raleigh where he became a member of North Raleigh United Methodist Church.
Ted was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sara Plint Fussell. He is survived by four sons, David J. Fussell and wife Melanie, and their sons Michael and Kevin; Robert S. Fussell and wife Donna and their daughters, Katherine and Rebecca, and their son Hunter; Michael W. Fussell and wife Patti and their daughters, Hannah, Sara Grace, and Laura; James P. Fussell and wife Shannon and their daughters, Christian, Meredith and Kendall; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Joan Ross and Mrs. Sue Wall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt, Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception to be held at the church.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Forsyth Memorial Gardens, 3771 Yadkinville Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt, Raleigh, NC.
