Yvonne Long Southerland

Raleigh, NC- Yvonne Long Southerland passed peacefully after a short illness on April 7, 2025 at Duke Raleigh Medical Center. Born in Selma, NC, she was the daughter of Effie Garner Long and James Long. She was a graduate of Selma High School, class of 1957. Yvonne was married to Willard Albert Southerland, Jr. for 47 years. Together they had three daughters, Cindy Crabb (Doug), Lynne Hopkins (Hoppy) and the late Amy Melissa Southerland. Yvonne (MeMe) is also survived by five grandchildren : Kent Schneider (Guenn); Amy Mateo (Art); Gene Schneider; Brittany Ledford (Brian); Alex Hopkins and eight great grandchildren: Ophelia Ledford; Brently Schneider; Winston Ledford; Caroline Schneider; Kensington McGillicuddy; Sadie Schneider; Adeline McGillicuddy; and Naomi Mateo.

Yvonne retired as the Deputy Director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections after many years of service. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, time with family and following her friends on Facebook. She loved playing cards and games, putting together puzzles and or just sitting and talking.

The Family will receive friends from 11-12 on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh, NC located at 1701 East Millbrook Road. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 12pm with Dr Jamie Mitchell officiating. A private interment for family will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
