Norman "Whitey" White

Norman “Whitey” White passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff, Calif. surrounded by family on Feb 13, 2018. Norman was born to Cloyd and La Von Lester White on Dec. 25, 1926 in Marion Ohio. Norman, as a boy, worked selling and delivering newspapers for The Columbus Dispatch. He then went to work for the Yellow Taxi Cab Company before entering into the U.S. Army Air Force from 1945-1947. He served in the Occupation of Japans rebuilding and earning the rank of Sargent. Upon Norman’s return home to Marion, he met and married Marie Jane Glass and went to work in his Father-in-Laws trade of plastering. Marie gave birth to 4 children before moving to Calif. in 1963 where Norman continued working as a union plaster and their 5th child Terri was born in 1966. Norman lost his wife and mother of his remaining 4 children in 1969 (Ronnie White) preceded her in death in 1967. Norman met and married Patricia Scarbrough in 1977 and they enjoyed a 35 year marriage until Pats’ death in 2012. Upon his retirement in 1989, Norman enjoyed spending time with his extended family, helping out at his son’s cabinet shop, playing cards, Mexican Train, and playing Lotto which he played the same numbers faithfully for 32 years (and no, he never hit a big one!) Norman was preceded in death by wives Marie Jane and Pat Louise, son Ronald Allen-1966, daughter Sharon Yvonne-2016, and step-mother Jane Dodrill White. He is survived by children, Cindy Askew, Jamie White and Terri White, step-children Evy Vannatta and Kenny Scarbrough. Ohio siblings, brother-Leland, Lowell and Bill, sister-Marilyn Collins and Patty Higgins, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren. Norman went by a few other names like Whitey, Dad, Daddy, Pop Grandpa, Gramps, and Old Papa. He loved and cherished them all and all who spoke of them. He is loved and will be missed by all. Services are March 5, 2018 @ 12:30pm at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
