Red Bluff, California
Ruth Guitar Murchison (Belcher), 99, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, in Red Bluff, California.
Ruth was born on September 17, 1925, in Upland, California. As a young woman, she attended the University of Southern California and was an active member of the Tri Delta Sorority. In 1945, she married Ralph V. Murchison, and together they built a life rooted in family and agriculture. In 1958, they moved to Red Bluff with their three children and settled west of town in the Red Bank District. There, they established a 1500-plus-acre ranch where they grew oat hay and raised and showed registered Angus cattle.
Ruth was deeply involved in her community and had a passion for many activities. She was a dedicated member of Tehama County Cowbells (now Tehama Cattlewomen) and actively volunteered with her children's 4-H Club. She had a special love for raising birds of various breeds, which she sold to local pet shops and businesses throughout the area. Her baking skills were well known among family and friends—her famous pomegranate jelly and "Santa Claus Cookies" were cherished treats that brought joy to many.
Beyond her agricultural and culinary talents, Ruth enjoyed visiting casinos, shopping, and spending time with friends and family. She formed lasting friendships throughout the community and left behind fond memories for all who knew her. Her warmth and generosity touched countless lives, creating a legacy that will be remembered with love.
Ruth is survived by her children: RJ "Rusty" Murchison, Mike Murchison, and Janice Murchison Borchard; her grandchildren: Dustie Parker, Scott Murchison, and Seth Murchison; as well as her great-grandchildren: Laney Parker and Cash Parker. Nephews, John, Paul, and Brett Hofer. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over five decades, Ralph V. Murchison, who passed away on February 7, 1998. Her sisters, Laura Jean Belcher Hofer 1921-2004 and Barbara Lee Belcher Backman 1927-2004.
A viewing will be held on February 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers, located at 816 Walnut St., Red Bluff, California, 96080. Burial will follow the viewing.
