

surrounded by family in Redding CA. He was born in Fresno, CA
on October 24, 1918 to Chesley Beaumont and Hazel Ruth
MacDonald Cargile. In 1923, Chesley, married Stella Akerman
Bowman after the death of his wife, Hazel Ruth.
In addition to living in Fresno, Archie lived in St Paul,
Minnesota, the Panama Canal Zone and St. Augustine, FL. He
graduated from High School in St. Augustine, Florida, and then
attended Georgia Technical School of Technology, in Atlanta,
Georgia.
Archie joined the Navy on April 24, 1941. After boot camp in Atlanta, Georgia he went to
Corpus Christi, Texas for air maintenance training. In 1942, in Kingsville, Texas, he graduated, and
was commissioned as an ensign. He married Miss Patricia Raulerson in the Naval Chapel in Corpus
Christi, on November 5th, that year.
In July 1944, during World War II, Archie was assigned to the USS St. George, in the Japan
Seas. After the war, in March of 1946. the USS St. George returned to San Diego, CA.,.
He then worked at the Navy Electronics Laboratory in San Diego. He relocated to Oxnard, CA,
in 1957, then to Oak View, CA, in 1964 and worked at Pt. Mugu Naval Missile Test Center.
In 1968, Archie retired from the Navy Reserve and was transferred to rank of Lt. Commander.
He worked at Pt. Mugu Naval Missile Test Center for twenty-six years and retired in 1982, after
serving the US. Government for 41 years.
In September 1987, Pat and Archie moved to Anderson, CA, from Oak View/Ojai. There they
attended Cloverdale Community Church. At Cloverdale Archie served as Deacon/Elder and taught
Sunday school. He and Pat loved roses and trees. They belonged to the Rose Society in Redding,
CA and in 1995 their home on Flowers Lane was on the Rose Tour.
In October 2009, Arch had open heart surgery. Subsequently, Pat and Archie sold their home
in Anderson and moved to the Vistas, an exclusive assisted living complex in Redding. In November
of 2012, Arch and Pat celebrated 70 years of married life together.
Archie is preceded in death by his sister Anna Cargile Johnson of Houston, TX, Step sister
Kathrine (Kitty) Bowman Talbert of St. Augustine, FL, step brothers Forest Clyde Bowman of St.
Augustine, FL and Nathan Ackerman Fredrick of Iowa. Archie is survived by his wife Patricia R.
Cargile of Redding. He was the father of four children, all of who survive. They are his daughters
Mrs. Phil (Sallie) Harris and Mrs. Jim (Denise) Henry of Redding, his daughter Mrs. Kent (Lynne)
Klocke of Anderson and son Douglas Cargile of Pt. Orford, Oregon. He has 10 grandchildren, 15
great grand children and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
The Memorial Service is at McDonald’s Chapel, 1275 Continental St., Redding, at 1:00pm and
graveside service is at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 8th.
