

Betty Lou (Payne) Scoggins
Betty was born in Irvington, Kentucky on January 22, 1932. She passed away peacefully on October 13th 2024 in Cedarville, CA at the age of 92 where she had lived for the last 16 years. Betty was raised in Colorado Springs, CO where she attended Bible Schools whose rules were very strict with no TV, movies, radio, or card games. She was very involved with music playing piano, organ, clarinet and accordion. Betty took her love for music to all the churches that she attended throughout her lifetime.
She moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1955 with her parents and began working at an air conditioning company and soon learned what the real world was all about.
Betty met Ron Gladstone Scoggins in a dance class where they won many competitions. They were married on Friday the 13th of September 1957. They had 3 sons, Ronnie Junior, Ben Elva and Steven Eugene.
They moved to Redding CA where Ron retired from the US Navy. They loved to backpack into the Marble Mtns, and Trinity Alps as a family. They were also deeply involved with bowling, and baseball.
Betty went to nursing school at the age of 48 and graduated as an RN in 1982 from the nursing program at Shasta College. She worked as an RN at Mercy in Redding and Humana hospital in Anchorage, AK.
Betty lost Ron in 2002, and then followed her youngest son Steve to Surprise Valley to live out the rest of her life. She was involved with the local knitting classes, quilting guild, and the community church where she played the organ.
She is survived by her oldest son Ron Jr. (Heidi), youngest son Steve, (Cathy), Nephew Mathew Scoggins, Granddaughters, Nikki Munholand, Christina Brooks (Josh), Great Granddaughter’s, Vanessa Geaney, Marley DeBlois, Mady and Elsie Cyphers, Great Grandson’s Cason Hodgdon, Jaxon Blake, and Henry Raabe. Betty was preceded in death by her middle son Ben.
She will be buried in Redding next to her husband Ron. A service and celebration of life will be held in Cedarville and announced at a later date.
