Betty Dillon was born to John and Mildred Harmon on December 13, 1933 in San Jose CA. She spent her formative years in the oil fields of Kern County where her father worked as an oilman. She grew up as an only child but had many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins in her life. As a child she was interested in the arts and became an accomplished pianist at the urging and support of her mother, Mildred whom she shared an especially close relationship. She was raised as a Southern Baptist, attending the Sunday school classes taught by her father, John. This foundational teaching led her to a close relationship with Jesus Christ, whom she followed all the days of her life.
After high school she attended San Jose State and later met a returning Korean War veteran Jim Dillon in San Francisco in 1958. It was love at first sight, and the two were married on August 1, 1959 and shortly afterwards started contributing to the baby boomer generation with Matthew, Mark, David and Deborah. Jim and Betty and family started their lives in San Francisco and migrated to Concord, CA when the area was mostly walnut orchards. The family moved again to Redding CA in 1976 where Betty's mom owned and operated a rest home for the elderly.
Betty worked in various capacities during her life. She was a grocery clerk, bookkeeper, worked in sales for home interior, and helped out at her mother’s rest home. However, she was most content and proud to work in the home, participating in charitable activities such as the mental health organization in Shasta County and at Little Country Church in Redding.
Betty is survived by her husband Jim and their four children and spouses, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and with another one on the way.
She will be greatly missed, but we are comforted that she is in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
