

As a young boy, Jack lived at the north end of Court Street overlooking his mother's family property, the Diestelhorst Ranch by the Sacramento River. Jack wqtched Mt. Lassen erupt in front of his home in 1915.
Jack's sister Margaret was born in 1917. In 1918, Jack's mother passed away during the flu epidemic. Jack's father, John Patrick worked in the woods, Jack and his sister Margaret, stayed with the Nielsen side of the family until John Patrick married Alice Firth.
As a boy, Jack worked a newspaper route that included an unpaved Placer Hill. During high school, he worked as an usher at the Redding Theatre.
At a young age Jack followed in his father's footsteps working in the timer industry for the Red River Lumber Co. He worked near Susanville and at Camp 10. Jack spent many summers cruising timber on foot and on horseback, and winters on foot burning snags.
From 1942-1945, during World War II, Jack was a first sgt.,347th Engineer regiment, rebuilding bridges in Europe. Jack received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal Good conduct Medal.
Jack returned to the states continuing his work in the timber field as a private forester. Jack, also invested in the timberland in Lassen and Trinity Counties, with his good friends and partners, Clinton Peltier and Do-Be Melcon Peltier.
Jack was a quiet man that loved the outdoors. He could be found hiking the Davis Gulch trail twice a day well into his 80s.
Jack enjoyed playing electronic poker at Win-River Casino until a hip fracture forced home to stay home. Jack remained at home with loving, devoted caregivers, continuing to play poker and watch the San Francisco 49ers.
Jack is preceded in death by: mother, Charlotte Nielsen Clark; Father John Patrick Clark; sister, Margaret Gray Castle; stepmother, Alice Fealey; companion June Stanley.
Jack is survived by: nephew, Dan Gray of Yuba City; niece, Judy Rice of Santa Cruz, companions daughter, Carol Tobias of Riverside, companions brother; William Morrison of Buckeye, AZ, many cousins and extended family.
Jack enjoyed trips to Reno playing poker and dinners out with his companion of 40 years, June Stanley, owner of Jacks Grill.
