Paul was born on June 11, 1955, in Marion, Willamson County, Illinois to Wallace Lee Peebles and Wilma Fern Simmons Peebles. In 1977, Paul received his BA from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Paul furthered his education by attending Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, earning his Master of Science degree in 1979. Paul began his working career in Modesto, CA as a Rehab Placement Specialist for Goodwill. In about 1982, Paul moved to Redding, CA and accepted a position as a Rehabilitation Counselor at California Department of Rehabilitation, where he worked for more than 30 years.
Paul never married and did not have any children. For many years, Paul was deeply involved in the care and enjoyment of his horses, Kababe ("California Baby", his sorrel pride and joy) and Robin (his white, gentle-souled gal), as well as several other horses. He also rescued/adopted his beloved "kids" from Haven Humane. Over the years, Paul adopted many dogs and gave them a loving home for the rest of their lives. Dagwood, Milo, Amy, Blue, Norman and Anna are just a few of the beloved pets Paul adopted and shared his love and care with.
Paul was a member of the Community of Christ Church, of which Graceland University is affiliated. Paul attended the Anderson congregation for many years until he could not drive due to his disability. Paul sat on the Building Committee with the church for several years and supported all the church's functions as best he could.
Paul loved riding horses, rescuing dogs, helping others, visiting with friends, writing poetry, and watching old movies. His family and friends will always remember him as a strong man who took life's struggles and used them to serve others. Paul used his disability to show others how to not let a disability define themselves. Paul had a great sense of humor and never passed up an opportunity to share one of his quips, humorous stories, or jokes with those around him.
Paul is survived by his sister, Beth Ann Asp, of Marion, Ill, and eight beloved cousins all living in the mid-west area, along with many dear friends, neighbors, and prior co-workers who he remained close to after retirement. Paul is preceded in death by his father, Wallace Lee and his mother, Wilma Fern, and many beloved cousins
A Celebration of Life and a Graveside burial to follow is scheduled for Saturday, March 21st, at the Community of Christ Church, 19956 Alexander Avenue, Anderson, CA 96007, with a light refreshment following the service. The family would like to thank all those who, over the years, have assisted Paul in his endeavor to live a successful, independent, and fulfilling life. Flowers and donations can be sent to Community of Christ Church, 19956 Alexander Ave., Anderson, CA 96007.
