Ron was born February 2, 1936, to Ed and Lois Holden in Van Nuys, Ca. Ron graduated from Long Beach State College in 1959 with a BA in Economics and from USC in 1963 with a MA in Economics. Ron was in the Army National Guard from 1959-1965 and trained at Fort Irwin and Fort Bliss. After college, Ron was employed by the Douglas Aircraft Co. before he began his public service career. After initial positions with the City of Los Angeles and Ventura County, he accepted a position with US Aid and worked two years for the Treasury Department in the Republic of Liberia, West Africa. Over the next 29 years Ron worked for Humboldt, Kern, Lassen, Tulare and Del Norte counties as their County Administrative Officer. Ron retired from public service in 1996.
Ron met his beautiful bride Dixie Lee in 1979 while they were both working in Kern County. They were married on January 1, 1980. Through the years they were involved in many civic and community groups. They were very active travelers with Good Sam groups in Crescent City and Redding. Ron was never just part of a group, he was usually founding or leading it. Ron was one of the founding members of the River City Ramblers in Redding and involved at the state level with Good Sam. Ron was also a founding member of The Geezers, a group of men who gathered each Monday and enjoyed lunch and laughter.
Ron is survived by Dixie, his wife of 35 years and the five children they shared: Bryan Holden (Lisa) from Visalia, Eric Holden from Chico. Jill Ault (Gary) from Redding, Jimmy Vizzard (Diane) from Bakersfield and John Watkins from Phoenix, AZ. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren.
