Sylvia "Toby" Cox passed away on October 11, 2014. She was born in Madera, CA to Nellie and Housen Lavell on January 10, 1935. She was blessed with a loving husband of 53 years Rod Cox; five children: David Haggard, Dan Haggard, Diane Cox Rubiaco, Arnie Cox and Jack Cox; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Toby was a self-proclaimed tomboy who grew up on a cattle ranch near Yosemite Valley in North Fork, California, riding horses and singing like an angel. She was called on frequently to share the beautiful voice she was blessed with to sing for weddings, service clubs installation of officers and community events. While raising her own family in Blue Lake she was actively involved in the community attending the Blue Lake Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, was a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and was active in the United Presbyterian Women's organization. She was a member of the Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. Blazettes and played on their soft ball team as the catcher. For years she was a leader for both the Camp Fire Girls and 4H organizations while being involved with the PTA at both the local and council level. She belonged to the Blue Lake Dancing Club where she enjoyed dancing with many of her lifelong friends. She will be missed terribly. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association , a disease that she endured for more than 12 years. Friends of Toby and her family are invited to attend a memorial service at the Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be an open mic for anyone who would like to share their favorite "Toby" story. Those unable to attend are welcome to send remembrances to Rod Cox, HRC 35 Unit 3 Box 5, Burnt Ranch, CA 95527.
