Alice Newman, 90, of Varina, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017. She was preceded in death in 2009 by her husband of 56 years, Fred Newman. Alice was born in Lancashire, England, where she lived for more than half her life before moving to the United States with Fred and their 3 children in 1976. Alice was a gentle woman and a most loving and devoted wife. Her family was the center of her life’s work. She has left to cherish her memory her children Chris Newman, Varina; Sandra Prichard (Mark), Augusta, GA; and Valerie McCartan (Jack), Newark, DE; her four grandchildren Jennifer Newman, Hilary and Ian Prichard and Luke McCartan; beloved, older brother Harold Foote of Lancashire, England, as well as many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom who will miss her greatly. A celebration of Alice’s life will be held this Friday, December 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231, with words of encouragement at 5 p.m.
