Carolyn "Big Mama" Ancarrow Dunkum

DUNKUM, Carolyn Ancarrow “Ducky”, 72, of Sandston, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018. Most everyone knew her as “Big Mama.” She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Edward S. Dunkum Sr., known as “Big Ed”; and her parents, Bennie J. and Shirley Mae Ancarrow. She is survived by her sons, Edward S. Dunkum Jr. (Connie) and Keith Dunkum Sr. (Gina); her sister, Brenda Conway (Eddie); and her grandchildren, Josh Bower (Allyson), Edward S. Dunkum III, Cole Dunkum (Jessie), Keith Dunkum Jr. and Brittany Dunkum; as well as her great-grandchildren, Autumn and Juliette Bower and Madeline Dunkum; her lifelong friend, Shirley Wolfe; and her sisters-in-law, Jean Dennis Dunkum and Joyce Dunkum Brown. She retired from the Virginia State Taxation Department, and will be missed by her extended community of family and friends. Big Mama was an avid reader and an extraordinary mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She was truly a Big Mama to everyone she met. A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, on Wedneday, June 13, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Nelsen Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service at Washington Memorial Park will immediately follow the service.
