Charlotte was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was being with family, shopping for her grandkids and cooking and playing games, especially Scrabble. For 34 years, she worked beside her husband at Landmark Baptist Church. Her roles were many, from Pastor’s wife, Sunday school teacher, to working as a teacher and in administration in Landmark Christian School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James D. Sumpter, Sr.; her son, Don Sumpter; her parents, Paul and Audrey Lark; her brothers, Bob and Eddie Lark; and her sister, Kay Lark Boggs. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ken and Kathy Mullens; daughter-in-law, Sonya Sumpter Hoffman; grandchildren and their spouses, Kenny and Julia Mullens, Kris and Megan Mullens, Katie Mullens, James and Joy Sumpter, Justin and Lauren Sumpter and Jon and Krissy Sumpter; great-grandchildren, Brenton, Dylan, Reagan, Mason, Logan, Bryce, Grady, Ellie, Boston, Lex, Remi, Barrett and Maggie; siblings, Carla Homola (Joe); Janie Benton (Doug); and Dickie Lark.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Landmark Baptist Church, 4000 Creighton Rd., Richmond, VA 23223, where a service will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Hanover Memorial Park.
