He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lillie Simmons Wendel; and his son, Charles Ted Wendel III.
C.T. served in the U.S. Air Force where he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1985. He then served in the Virginia Air National Guard until his retirement in 1992. C.T. enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, and hunting for deer and turkey. He was strong in his faith and was a member of Fairmount Christian Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 31 years, Phyllis C. Wendel; children, Susan Wendel Dissee (Ronnie), James “Dickie” Wendel (Alicia), Karen Wendel, step-daughter, Cheri Borkey; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Charlotte Wendel.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to C.T.’s caregiver, Iesha, for all of her love and support.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2022. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
