
A native of Varina, Dea loved the beach, her friends and family, and was known as "The Official Hugger.” She was an active lifetime member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church, Varina, VA. Dea cared deeply about others, especially children. Her administrative career spanned over 50 years, with positions at Life Insurance Company of Virginia, Children’s Hospital of Richmond and Paul L. Valentine Orthotics, where she was still employed. Did we mention - she loved the beach?
She is survived by her husband, James R. Morrison, retired Henrico County firefighter; two sons, Brent T. Atkinson of Highland Springs, VA and Todd W. Atkinson of Sandston, VA; a sister, Debby Wells Wick and husband Dennis R. of Varina, VA; a brother, Danner T. (DT) Wells and wife, Cathleen S. (Cali) Coulthard of Harpers Ferry, WV; an adopted grandson, Andrew B. Gallier, of Appomattox, VA; three nephews, Kurt L. Wick of Charlotte, NC; Ryan A. Wick and his wife, Stacey L. of Apollo Beach, FL; Jason D. Wells of Elizabeth City, NC; one great nephew, Tyler Grayson Wick of Apollo Beach, FL, whom she absolutely adored; her aunt, Sue M. (PD) Williamson, of Varina, VA; and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and just last month, her brother Dale F. Wells.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 29, at Nelson Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, Richmond. A memorial celebration will be held Friday, January 30 at 2 p.m. at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church, 2950 New Market Road, Henrico, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dea's memory may be made to Four Mile Creek Baptist Church.
