Dorothy Marie Nelson

Dorothy Nelson, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on 03/10/2026. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend whose life was defined by kindness, strength, and a deep love for her family and the Lord.

Dorothy shared a beautiful marriage of 61 years with her beloved husband, Ike B Nelson. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and unwavering commitment to one another. Their love story was an inspiration to everyone who knew them.

She was a caring and devoted mother, a proud grandmother and great grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her family. Dorothy had a gentle spirit and warm heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter and unconditional love.

Those who knew Dorothy will remember her for her kindness, her quiet strength, and the way she made everyone feel welcome and valued. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through the lives of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who were blessed to know her.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Ike, B Nelson, her Children; Kenny Nelson, Wendy Tiller (Keith), Kristina Toman and Forrest Nelson (Tammy), her grandchildren, Andrea Tiller, Hannah Nelson(Chelsea), Taylor Burchett (Caleb), Jaden Bell (Elizabeth), Ike Nelson (Sara), James Nelson, Jonathan Nelson (Melanie), Jessica Waguespack (Brandon); sister Patricia Jones, and many great grandchildren and extended family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

A homegoing will be held with family and loved ones to celebrate Dorothy’s life and the many ways she touched the hearts of those around her. Though she will deeply be missed, Dorothy’s love and spirit will remain with her family always.

The family will receive friends 5 – 8pm, Friday, March 13, 2026 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA 23231. A funeral service will be held 11 am, Monday, March 16 at Varina Baptist Church, 8090 Varina Rd, Richmond, VA 23231. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
