Esther Moore Schwerdtfeger, 68, went to her heavenly home on March 9, 2015 after a valiant battle with cancer. Esther was born to the late Joseph and Hattie Moore, in Richmond Virginia on August 11, 1946. She was raised in a Christian home where the Bible was taught and where the foundations for her strong faith were laid. She came to know her Lord as an adolescent and as an adult introduced Him to all she knew through both words and actions. Esther raised her family with patience, discipline and humility. She raised her children in the church and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels leading her youngest son to follow God’s calling into the Gospel Ministry. Esther was retired from the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing authority after 30+ years. Esther was a loyal and dedicated member of Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church, located in the east end of Henrico County. She served her Lord as an Ordained Deacon, children’s Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member and Prayer Warrior. Esther is survived by her two sons, Charles Jr. and James; her daughter-n-law, Rebecca; and her grandchildren, Moira, Ian and Aiden, all of whom she loved and cared for deeply. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbur Moore and Marion Moore. Funeral service will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, Laburnum Ave on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11am. Visitation will be at Nelsens on Sunday, March 15, 2015, 2-4pm and again 6-8pm. Interment in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church carillon fund. Condolences and memories are gladly accepted at www.nelsenrichmond.com.
