I worked for Ukrops while in college at UR and for a few years afterward. Brent was my manager at the Buford store. For some reason he came to mind this evening so I researched his name online only to find that he had passed away 6 years earlier. I always liked Brent and found him to be a wonderful teacher. He was kind and level headed, always calm under stress. Brent was one of the finest men I ever met and he made a lifelong impression on my life.


Brent gave me my first real job and then became a great mentor by giving me more responsibilities and demonstrating the most important lessons in serving others.  All the while he used humor and gentleness to guide and shape me into a better person and employee.  I have used these skills he helped me develop throughout my life. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have worked with him and I have many fond memories of closing the store on Saturday night and working during snow storms.  Mrs. Holder, Brent and family I will pray for your comfort and peace during the coming days.

Brent Holder was a real "mans man" with all the virtues of a true Virginia Gentleman.  A life long leader, teacher, and guide ...with a smile for everyone.  He was true to his faith, family, and friends.  Brent will always be my Best Bud.

Chris and Family - You have our sympathies in the loss of your father.  He was a great guy, and always a joy to be around.  I will always be appreciative of the opportunities he gave me when we worked together at Ukrop's.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

As a boy I was awed by Brent's extraordinary athleticism as I watched him kick footballs at the Farm as high as the pine trees, or hit towering softballs far beyond the rest of us, or make an endless number of foul shots in a row, or just the intense, competitive fire he would bring to the playing field.  However, my enduring memory of Big Brent will be his gentle, easy to talk to nature, his goodness, and the steadfast encouragement and support he demonstrated to me, my wife and children throughout our lifetimes. To the Holder Family,
One of the joys of being in the ministry is the people that you meet along the way who become such a blessing. Brent was one of those with his kind, caring ways and nice sense of humor.  He would talk about things that he knew you were interested in. With me, he talked about music, teaching, farming and Farmall Tractors. With Steve, he talked about baseball, surfing and many things of Faith. With our son, it was all about Richmond Spider sports! Put simply: Brent was a delightful man!  In this time of sorrow and loss, we are praying that God will hold you close.

I'm sure that there are hundreds of stories like mine.  The one that starts with Brent giving them their first job with all the adult responsibilities that go with it.  Working with him was a great experience and one that has always been beneficial throughout my life.  While we worked hard during those stressful circular sales weeks, Brent's playful spirit always help to put things into proper perspective.  While there are many good things to remember about Brent, I think that playful spirit is the one I'll remember most frequently.

There was never a kinder, more gentlemanly person whom I have met.  I first met Bent when he worked at Ukrops on Ruthers Rd.  He was a dear friend of my mentor, Henry Creech.  He will live on in my memory of what goodness, generosity and kindness looks like,
