Jim was born June 9, 1952, in Michigan, and over his lifetime he became a dedicated husband, proud father, joyful grandfather, loyal friend, and voice of reason in many conversations. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 34 years, Marta, his parents Geraldine and Robert Mercer, and sisters Nancy Peoples and Sheila Graybeal.
He leaves behind his two sons, Rob and Mike Mercer; his grandchildren Abram and Libby, who he adored; and his grand-pup Echo, who he spoiled. Jim’s extended family includes members of the Puchalski and Mercer families and the many close friends he made over the years—especially at Buffalo Wild Wings, Robertos, and around the Richmond community.
Professionally, Jim was a talented Product Engineer, contributing to major circuit breaker companies and finishing his career as a well-respected customer representative before his retirement in 2017.
But to those who knew him best, Jim’s real legacy was in how he made people feel: valued, listened to, and loved. Whether on a drive with his grandkids, chatting over wings, or offering life advice with a smile and a side of sarcasm—he always made an impact.
Jim’s passing leaves a quiet space in our lives, but his spirit lives on in every story, every memory, and every “Jim decision” we try to make going forward.
Rest in peace, Dad. We’ll carry your heart with us always.
