He was preceded in death by his parents, James N. and Ruby C. Acree, and his son-in-law, Terry Thompson. He was a member of the Varina Masonic Lodge 272 for 50 years. Jerry was a multi-craft skilled tradesman. He started his career working alongside his father, uncles, and cousins at Natkin & Company in Ashland, Virginia, eventually working his way up to a Pipe Foreman. One of the highlights of his career was assisting in building the Richmond Coliseum. Outside of his professional accomplishments, Jerry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed old cars. In 2005, at the age of 62, Jerry retired from the West Point Paper Mill and spent the next 19 years being a full-time husband to the love of his life, Donna.
Jerry had a special way with animals, both wild and domestic. He especially loved his cats, Rosie and Lella. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 28 years, Donna M. Acree; children, Terri S. Thompson, Justin N. Acree (Amanda), Allen L. Morgan, Bryant K. Morgan (Debbie); grandchildren, Justin N. Acree Jr., Jameson N. Acree, Jacob B. Morgan, Melissa F. Wilson (Chad), Joshua A. Morgan (Amanda), Michael S. Morgan (Malia); great grandchildren, Chase Wilson, Gabriel Wilson, Olivia Wilson, Berkley Morgan, Bryson Morgan, Holden Morgan and Lani Morgan. He also leaves behind many close friends and extended family.
The family will receive visitors at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231 on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Nelsen Funeral Home with interment to immediately follow in Washington Memorial Park in Sandston, Virginia.
The family would also like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the critical care and hospice staff of Memorial Regional Hospital who lovingly cared for Jerry, and the family, during his final days.
