Joan Whitt Gillen

Gillen, Joan Whitt, 93, of Sandston went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband George, brothers Harold, Jimmy, sister Maxine Colley, son-in-law, Ricky Allen.

She is survived by her sister Carol Lee Taylor, sister-in-law Sabara Gillen, children Debbie Washington (Andy), Diane Allen, and George (Junie) Gillen, Jr. (Shelia), grandchildren Jarrod (Jay) Chalkley (Vickie), Richard (Richie) Allen, Jr. (Niki), Nicole Dillon (Michael), Andrew Gillen (Nina Watkins) and Will Gillen, great-grandchildren Ethan and Dylan Chalkley, Brynleigh and Kailyn Allen, Aubree and Marcie Jo Dillon; Aiden Watkins, Bryce, and Mason Gillen.

She was a long-time member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Fairfield Ruritan Club. She loved annual trips to Myrtle Beach that began with her honeymoon. She had the most loved cats, Sunny Boy, Baby Girl, and Dewey. She shared her kindness with her friends and family. She had a great smile that would light up the room when she walked in. You could always count on her to be at least 5 minutes late everywhere she went.

The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home Laburnum on January 28 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Services will be held at Nelsen’s on January 29 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Washington Memorial Park.
