John Farrell Johnson, 69, of Varina and Northern Virginia, expert and historian, has come to his journey’s end after a long and arduous battle with hydrocephalus, dementia, and PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy).
John was an avid reader. He read almost anything that he could get his hands on, but sci-fi was his genre of choice. His love of reading cultivated the beautiful mind that he possessed. He was an expert of history, current events, government, geography, counterculture, carpentry, woodworking, painting, coffee, music, watches, cars, motorcycles, and practically anything that anyone approached him with a question about.
John had a special passion for motorcycles. He found such peace and joy in “taking a survey of Varina” on his latest ride. For a thrill, he would frequent the 318 curves in 11 miles of The Tail of The Dragon in NC. In 2005 he rode across the country on a motorcycle accompanied by his son also on a motorcycle and his wife and daughter in a car; from Virginia to California to attend a MotoGP motorcycle race at the famous Laguna Seca race track.
His favorite thing was to spend quality time with his sweetie, his kids, and his buddies (his four grandchildren). A cup of coffee, some good music on the stereo, and the company of his family.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Moe Johnson; his children, Andy Johnson (Stacey), Kati Moore (Andrew); his beloved grandchildren, Lance, Axel, Lannie, and Freddie; and his siblings, Beth Johnson, Helen Biggs (Bruce), and Tim Johnson. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Johnson and his father, Edward Johnson.

"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die." Hunter S. Thompson
John’s family is planning a celebration of life for friends and family at a later date.
