John Dave Wilkins

WILKINS, John, aged 76, passed away on May 18, 2014. John spent his last days surrounded by the loving presence of his family and friends. His son, David, preceded him in death. John is survived by his dear wife of 51 years, Nancy Haller Wilkins; his sisters Bernice Edwards, Louise Rampone and Beulah Williams; his brothers James, Thomas and Joe; his niece Betty Jean Wilkins, nephew Travis Wilkins and many more nieces and nephews. John was born the seventh of 13 children on a tobacco farm near Martinsville, Virginia. He worked for many years as a machinist for Hauni Inc. A quiet man, John took pleasure in simple things: drinking coffee at the Waffle House on Williamsburg Road, playing poker with friends and watching "Bonanza." Both longtime residents of Quinton, John and Nancy are known for opening their home and their hearts to neighbors, friends and those in need. The family will receive friends on Thursday May, 22, 2014 from 11am to 1pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, VA 23231. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association's Richmond chapter, 4335 Cox Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060.
