Linwood Raymond “Buddy” Baker, 82, of Elko passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 26, 2013. He was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart decorated Marine in the Korean War. Buddy retired with 25 years of service with the Henrico County Police Department. He worked as a handyman and builder in his retirement. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Elizabeth Baker; children, Curt Baker, Bonnie Leffingwell (Jay), Terry Abbott (Charlie) and Linda Sweeney (Ahmad); stepchildren, Sebrina and Oswaldo Alfonso; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. . Buddy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Margaret and Raymond Baker; brother, Sonny Baker; and loving wife of 44 years, Gladys “Micky” Baker. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 29, 2013 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23231, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Virginia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Henrico Fraternal Order of Police at P.O. Box 1157, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060 or Bon Secours Hospice at 8580 Magellan Parkway, Richmond, Virginia 23227.
