

Linwood Wray Childress, 89, of Sandston passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2015. He retired from Philip Morris and Local 10. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II. He enjoyed keeping busy working in his garden and spending time with his beloved dog, Darcy. He and his wife attended New Bridge Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ada H. Childress; father, Ray J. Childress; sister, Thelma C. Freeman; brother, Wilbert “Chillie” Childress. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 33 years, Barbara C. Childress; his sons, Kenneth (Beverly), Richard (Gail), and Frank; stepson, Michael Ratliff; daughters, Janice (Mitch) and Carol. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Edna McClenny. A visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Washington Memorial Park, Sandston. Online condolences may be made at www.nelsenrichmond.com.
