Louis Austin Oakley Jr.

OAKLEY, Louis Austin, Jr., 94, of Sandston, passed away on May 8, 2019. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Glenn Oakley; brother, Richard Oakley; father, L.A. Oakley Sr.; and mother, Virginia Oakley. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Doris R. Oakley; nieces, Crystal, Vickie, Charlotte; and nephew, Charles "Buddy" (Carol). Louis worked as an insurance agent for many years at Peoples Life Insurance Company. He was also a veteran in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Radioman Third Class V6 in WWII. Louis was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He played on the first football team at Highland Springs High School, was in the Chairman's Cabinet Peoples Life in 1977 and 1978, and was Salesman of the Year numerous times. Louis was lovingly known as the "Candy Man" for handing out candy to everyone he met. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Va.
