Margaret C. "Meg" Hodges

She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended VCU. She retired from J. M. Fry Printing Inks and was a member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church.

Meg was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Carson; mother, Margaret Ann Robinson; and brother, Delmer Carson and is survived by her husband, James H. Hodges; children Elizabeth Hodges, Alisha Frank (Adam) and Ryan Hodges (Kelly); grandchildren, Madelyn Collins, Jack Collins and Declan Hodges; aunt, Lucy Tomlin; niece, Terri Shaffer; and nephew, Rodney O’Mary.

Services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Four Mile Creek Baptist Church.

Known as Meg by all who loved her, she was happiest surrounded by family and friends. Meg was cherished by her children and took immense pride in their accomplishments, big and small. Known as Granny or Mimi, Meg adored her grandchildren, and they have such fun memories of being with her. Meg especially enjoyed catching up with each one, as she was a great listener. Meg had a great sense of generosity, taking immense pleasure in helping others. Her thoughtfulness was a gift to all her knew her.

Meg loved flowers, especially yellow roses. It brought her great delight when she was gifted flowers as she enjoyed their brightness and scent. She had quite the green thumb, and has been nurturing her Christmas cacti from beloved friends for years, in addition to planting her backyard flower garden each spring. Her family is comforted by the memory of her beautiful smile when gazing upon the lilies by her home’s entrance.

As a Christian, Meg took comfort in reading her Bible, listening to country music, building puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune each evening with her husband. Meg found joy in so many simple things. The most joy she found was spending time with her devoted husband, Jim. Meg and Jim shared a special love story spanning over more than five decades. Meg was a great cook, and Jim loved enjoying her famous dishes like fried chicken, pork chops and Thanksgiving dressing.

The holidays were Meg’s favorite time of year. She loved when the family came together to share in decorating. Meg loved nutcrackers, and had a magnificent display each year. She took such joy in decorating her 10-foot Christmas tree. It was truly a work of art. The family will always be grateful for the holiday memories that Meg created.

We will remember Meg as a quiet, kind and compassionate person who always put the needs of others before herself.

She will be missed immensely.
