Orebell D. Philyaw

Orebell W. Duling Philyaw, 87, of Richmond, VA. Passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude L. Philyaw; parents, Annie Dowdy and Clarence M. Duling, Sr.;Sisters, Mildred Pendergraph, Esther Wood, LaVerne Leake, Charlotte Fleet; brother, Clarence M. Duling, Jr.

She was a Banking Supervisor for F & M Bank (Bank of America), and was a member of Ray of Hope PH Church and Sandston Baptist. She was a member of the Old Dominion Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, Friendly Club. She was an accomplished pianist and organist. She took 5 cruises and won the Talent Show on each. She had 50+ years of playing piano and organ at 3 area churches, including Four Mile Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Denise Philyaw; son, Michael Lamar Philyaw; 4 granddaughters and 9 great grandchildren and many other family and friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 18 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave where a service will be held Friday, June 19 at 12pm. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the Havens Assisted Living Home and staff for taking care of mom these last few months, as well as Bridge Hospice staff for their assistance.
