Stephen Philip Terry, 78, of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Varina, Steve was a proud graduate of Varina High School, Class of 1965. He continued his education at Chowan College and later Richmond Polytechnical Institute. A man of many talents and deep community roots, Steve co-owned SP Terry Painting and was a dedicated member of Varina #272 and Reedville #321 Masonic Lodges.
Steve’s legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of Varina, where he served as Past President of the Varina Youth Athletic Association and coached both football and baseball. He was a faithful member of Clover Hill Church, where he found fellowship and spiritual strength.
He found joy in travel—especially cruises—and cherished time spent on the Chesapeake Bay at the river. A lover of classic Westerns, Steve could often be found watching Bonanza, The Rifleman, or Big Valley. He had a special fondness for BBQ, which he considered the perfect meal for any occasion.
Steve was also infamous—in the most endearing way—for his “pop-in” visits, always arriving with a box of Country Style Donuts in hand. It was his signature move, a sweet surprise that brought smiles and laughter wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan McMullin Terry, and his brother, Marvin Douglas Terry. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Terry; his children, Shawn Terry (Lindsay), Parrish Schultz (Ernie), Paige Biddlecomb (Charlie), and Amy Feltner (Ronnie); and his cherished grandchildren: Brayden, Nathalie, Ally, Ellie, Susie, Amory, Grace, and Maddie. He also leaves behind his sister, Patricia Rapp, and many dear friends and extended family members.
Most recently he enjoyed his monthly class reunion gatherings held at Carini's restaurant.
To his grandchildren, he was simply “Buddy”—a name that captured the warmth, humor, and unconditional love he gave so freely. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives he touched.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 30th at Nelsen Funeral Home (4650 S Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA 23231). A brief visitation will begin at 1pm, followed by a memorial service at 2pm.
