

She was born on August 2, 1939 in Highland Springs, VA, where she graduated in 1957 from High School. In 1961, Sylvia, her husband, Bob, and son, Dean, and daughter, Sherry, moved to Germany where Bob was stationed for active military duties. While Adventuring in Germany, son, James, was born. After Germany he was stationed to Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska and off to the Great North they went. The Love of Alaska, adventuring and fishing continued after the military until 1992, when the call to come back home to Highland Springs, VA came upon her. To spend the rest of their time with family and friends in the town she grew up in and loved.
Sylvia was an Amazing, Vibrant Soul who cherished spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed fishing, berry picking, crocheting, square dancing with her husband, Bob, her Church and looked forward to Friday breakfast at Hardees with her most beloved friends for a weekly catch up. If you knew her, you Loved her sweet smile and Generous heart and warm, Love filled hugs.
Sylvia will be deeply missed by her youngest Brother, Kenneth and wife, Brenda Wagner of Virginia; her eldest son, Robert Dean Hughes and wife, Tauna Hughes of Nevada; her daughter, Sherry Chesley of Alaska; her grandsons, Chad Nylund, Hugh R. Hughes of Alaska, Rorey Hughes of Washington D.C.; her granddaughters, Clarissa Mashburn of Alaska, Brook Barre, and Lindsey Dickey. She is now reunited with her beloved Husband, Robert William Hughes, and son, James Warren Hughes.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 1pm at Sandston Baptist Church.
Sylvia Absolutely Cherished her church family at Sandston Baptist Church and loved volunteering and attending her Sunday school class. She will be remembered for her kind heart and the joy she brought to those around her.
