Thelma Pavey Newton, 90, of Quinton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Chinault and William Joseph Pavey; eight brothers and four sisters. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years, Robert "Bob" Newton; daughter, Faye Newton Slosjarik (Steve); grandchildren, Stephen Slosjarik (Kathy), Nicole O'Bier (B.J.) and Thomas Slosjarik (Ashton); great-grandchildren, Rivers, Lexi, Josie, John Thomas and Janey; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. Thelma was retired from the Virginia Employment Commission and a member of Sandston Baptist Church. She also volunteered her time at Henrico Doctors' Hospital. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Thelma's caregivers, Lori Curtis, Ashley Felts and Nakya Miller. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
