SLATER, Thomas G. Slater Sr. "Tommy," 66, of Henrico, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Tom Slater; mother-in-law, Mary Hope; and father-in-law, John Hope. Mr. Slater retired from Verizon with 38 years of service. He was an Army veteran. Tom enjoyed sports, computers, fishing, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. Mr. Slater is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy Slater "Sam"; sons, Thomas Slater Jr. (Tracy), Michael Slater (Suzann); daughter, Shannon Walls (Brandon); grandchildren, Sammi and Peyton Slater, Kyndall and Jaiden Leroy, Madison and Hunter Walls, Tyler, Trent, and Dakotah Slater; sisters, Betty Ellis and Debbie Abernathy; brother, Rick Slater; his dog, Chico; and several other family members and friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where a memorial service will be held following visitation, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe made to LINC's, P.O.
